Balmain has officially introduced Les Éternels de Balmain to the Australian luxury beauty market, marking a strategic expansion of its global footprint. The collection of eight all-gender eaux de parfum, inspired by Pierre Balmain’s couture heritage and Creative Director Olivier Rousteing’s contemporary vision, is available exclusively at David Jones.
Balmain Beauty was established in 2022 through a long-term licensing agreement with The Estée Lauder Companies, marking a major milestone in the fashion house’s expansion into the beauty sector. This partnership combines Balmain’s avant-garde creative direction with Estée Lauder’s expertise in luxury fragrance and cosmetics, setting the foundation for the brand’s ambitious global growth strategy.
Rousteing emphasised the brand’s commitment to innovation: “Balmain Beauty gives you the freedom to live your truth, free and powerful. Beauty is about being yourself and having the confidence to embrace who you are.”
He further highlighted the interplay between fashion and beauty: “Fashion cannot exist without beauty, and beauty cannot exist without fashion. Beauty is part of your silhouette, of who you are, just like the way you dress. I want to represent all the beauties of the world and welcome everyone without exceptions.”
Guillaume Jesel, President and CEO of Tom Ford and Luxury Business Development at The Estée Lauder Companies, stated: “Olivier Rousteing is one of the most accomplished designers of his generation, inventing revolutionary concepts at the confluence of past, present, and future. It has been an extraordinary journey bringing his vision for Balmain Beauty to life.”
The collection, meticulously crafted with premium ingredients, is positioned as a statement in modern fragrance artistry. The eight distinct scents are structured around four olfactive families, designed to offer consumers a diverse yet cohesive luxury fragrance experience:
Musk Family:
- Carbone – A maximalist musk with minimalist rose, reflecting identity and freedom.
Amber Family:
- Sel d’Ambre – A glowing amber with salty ambergris, illuminating the path to inner peace and self-realisation.
Floral Family:
- Vent Vert – A reimagining of the iconic green fragrance, blending airy mandarin with sensual jasmine.
- Rouge – A radiant bouquet, reminiscent of the magic hour when the sky is limitless.
- Ivoire – A tribute to Balmain’s New French Style, uniting all beauties of the world with intoxicating tubéreuse de nuit and untamed vetiver.
Woody Family:
- Bronze – Symbolising rebirth, blending cedarwood and patchouli.
- Ébène – Inspired by Pierre Balmain’s 1983 Africa-inspired fragrance, merging eternal ebony wood with precious myrrh oil.
- Bleu Infini – A transportive scent evoking endless skies and infinite seas, featuring warm cistus absolute and salted lichen.
Matteo Sgarbossa, Chief Executive Officer of Balmain, outlined the brand’s broader ambitions: “Just like Olivier Rousteing’s most impressive runways, Balmain’s ambitious plans for future luxury growth build directly upon a skilled melding together of the richness of our singular heritage with a distinctively modern outlook. Our agreement with The Estée Lauder Companies for Balmain Beauty is an obvious embodiment of that strategy. With this partnership, the house begins a new chapter, making very clear to all our commitment to maximising cross-category possibilities as we move forward, driven by the passion of our ‘Balmain Army’ and determined to fully realise this house’s potential to become a true leader in the luxury world.”
David Jones’ exclusive partnership with Balmain Beauty signals a calculated approach to luxury brand positioning within Australia.
