Australia is known as the ‘sunburnt country’. Unfortunately, the sun is one of our biggest killers.

Australia has the highest melanoma rates in the world and it is expected that 16,000 people will be diagnosed with melanoma this year, according to Melanoma Institute Australia.

That means one person is told they have melanoma every 30 minutes, and roughly  1300 people will die from melanoma in Australia this year.

In conjunction with  Skin Check Champions, a  non-profit charity championing the early detection of skin cancer and melanoma, The House of Healthy Skin by La Roche-Posay, will be open to the public from today (Wednesday, December 1) at Bondi Beach, Sydney before commencing on a tour around Australia stopping off at Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

The mobile, purpose-built space will host free one-on-one skin check screenings and give away samples of Anthelios, the brand’s very high broad spectrum SPF50+ sunscreen, at iconic locations along the way until  February 2022.

Skin Check Champions Founding Ambassador and CEO, Scott Maggs (aka Jimmy Niggles Esq), said: “By partnering with La Roche-Posay to bring the House of Healthy Skin to communities around the country, Skin Check Champions is honoured to provide free, educational skin cancer screenings for people who might never have been checked otherwise. Quite literally – saving lives every time we pop-up. As well as all this, we’ll be helping Aussies take better care of their skin, not just this summer, but all year round.”

Australian dermatologist, Dr Cara McDonald, from Complete Skin Specialists, said daily sun protection was a “must” and “if we aren’t protecting our skin from damaging UVA and UVB rays daily, we’re at risk of developing some form of skin cancer which we know in some cases can be deadly, especially for young people”.

Melanoma is the most common cancer affecting 20 to 39-year-old Australians.

The House of Healthy Skin will appear in the following locations:

• New South Wales – Bondi, Manly and Byron from December 1 – 23

• Queensland – Caloundra Beach, Queen St Mall and Pacific Fair from January 7 – 24,  2022

 • Victoria – St Kilda, Geelong and URBNSURF in Victoria from  January 27 – February 27, 2022
