Your skin’s needs are different in the colder months than the warmer months. Your skin may already be feeling drier, duller, a little tighter than usual or even irritated. Generally, your skin is in need of a little TLC.
So here are my Winter Skincare Dos and Don’ts:
Do: Use an exfoliator to remove dead, dull skin and allow your moisturiser to work more effectively. Don’t forget your body also needs exfoliating now, more than ever!
Don’t: Use a harsh exfoliant. Choose something gentle and no more than twice a week.
Do: Go for a hydrating no rinse cleanser that can cleanser and hydrate in one but most importantly, won’t strip your skin of it’s protective oils.
Don’t: Use products containing artificial fragrances, which can be irritating on already dry skin. Go for an unscented or naturally scented option.
Do: Step up your moisturiser. I recommend all my clients move up to the next richest Face Cream. Your skin will soak it up!
Don’t: Add more of the same and think this will do the trick! If your skin is dry, don’t ignore it. It’s time for a boost.
Do: Add a nourishing night cream to your routine. I am a massive night cream fan as they work differently to day creams, designed to work slowly overnight when your skin is already in repair mode whereas a day cream is designed to penetrate quickly.
Do: Use a humidifier in your bedroom.
Do: Take time to relax and hydrate your body with a moisturising bath oil. Your body will feel the difference for days to come.
Definitely: Add a booster by way of a treatment serum to protect your skin from the cold and harsh elements and power up your moisturiser. Cooler season skin needs a lot more moisture.
And last but by no means least: Whatever your skin-type, add anti-aging eye cream into your routine – people always forget about the delicate skin area around their eyes. This area is most prone to dryness and fine lines during colder months. So be kind to your eyes.
