Retail Beauty recently reported that L’Oréal’s full year 2021 sales had soared to US$36.8 billion ad that the multinational’s Active Cosmetics division (La Roche-Posay, SkinCeuticals, CeraVe and Vichy) had continued its booming success of the past four years.

CeraVe entered the market in 2005 with three hero products: a cleanser, a moisturising lotion, and a moisturising cream.

In 2017, L’Oréal signed an agreement with Valeant to acquire the skincare brands CeraVe, AcneFree and Ambi for a cash purchase price of US$1.3 billion.

Today, the cult brand developed with dermatologists includes an extensive line of moisturisers, cleansers, body washes, and SPFs.

The brand recently held a 30-minute livestream, hosted by Lauren Phillips, with special guests social media star Michael Brunelli, Dr Ryan De Cruz and celebrity make-up artist Jade Kisnorbo.

Throughout the session, Dr De Cruz busted the ‘SkinTok’ myths flooding social media, specifically  TikTok, and separated the “facts vs fake news”.

SLUGGING: DERM-APPROVED! ✅

“It’s not necessary to use thick petroleum jelly-based products –you can use a good Ceramides-based cream, which will do something similar, if not more, as you’re actually re-hydrating the skin and allowing the skin to breathe rather than trapping in water.”

DIY FACE MASKS: MYTH BUSTED! ❌

“When you consume these remedies -turmeric, eggs, bananas, oranges, lemons -there’s evidence they’re good, as they’re high in antioxidants and naturally anti-inflammatory, but I don’t advocate putting these on your face.

You can actually cause damage to the skin by using harsh stringent ingredients. Ascorbicacids (lemons and oranges), or vitamin C, is thought to be beneficial but you can cause harm if you apply them directly on sensitive skin or skin prone to acne breakouts.”

AVOID WASHING FACE IN SHOWER: MYTH BUSTED! ❌

“Water in the shower is really the same from your tap. It’s more about using the right temperature and considering the length of time in the shower.”

LYMPAHTIC FACE MASSAGES: MYTH BUSTED! ❌

“Lymphatic massage has been shown for a long time to be helpful for when you have problems with your lymphoid (limbs or facial swelling) but when you don’t have that problem, there’s no evidence lymphatic massaging has any real benefits.”

ICE MASSAGES: DERM-APPROVED! ✅

“It does shrink pore sizes and reduce swelling, and we do know cold temperatures shrink pores and reduce swelling, but the claims around helping anti-ageing… definitely not!”
