One of Australia’s leading fragrance manufacturers and distributors, Bondi Perfume Co. has launched Crew.

The Crew collection includes three scents that are designed to elevate one’s influence and embody the essence of coolness, sport, health and beauty. The unique and cutting-edge collection works to empower individuality and inclusiveness through a revolutionary olfactory experience where lifestyle meets distinction.

To celebrate the launch, Melanie Radman spoke with Australian Olympic Boxer, Harry Garside, who leads the ‘crew’ alongside four iconic individuals from around the country.

Tell me a bit about the Crew collection.

I’m pretty stoked to get a fragrance. When I started boxing, I never thought of anything like this. I think something that really drew me to it was that it’s for he, she and them, so it’s for everyone. It’s got scents for all parts of the day whether it be after sport, obviously I am an athlete…but also in the morning if I’m going out to do something more relaxing. I think it’s got scents for everyone and every part of the day which is really cool.

I think the key things were friendship, fun, sport, and just feeling good in your essence. So I do ballet every now and then, obviously, I am a boxer, I’m always catching up with my friends, I’m always about health and wellness, so its’ smells are for different parts of my day and my life which I think is really cool. I always think that every human is so unique and versatile. There’s masculine and feminine in me, and there’s just so many different styles to each person, but we don’t explore ourselves enough. So, I think the scents really encapsulate everyone.

What about these scents embody sport, health and wellness?

I’m going to make sure I’ve got like bottles in every part of my life. So I’ve got one in my boxing bag…I’m probably going to need one in my car. Say I’m going on a date with my partner, just different moments of each day. I think it really does encapsulate all the different parts of my life.

What does leading the ‘crew’ in this campaign mean to you?

I think friendship and connection is probably the most important thing. I think we all realised that during Covid-19, right? How isolated did we feel? I remember I couldn’t box at that time and I always thought training was the thing that released energy, but what I realised was being part of society and seeing my friends was actually how I got my energy and released a lot of my energy. I think finding your crew, finding your community and finding people that you can vibe with or connect with, or release things with, or do stuff with, I think is better, so I think that’s a good thing. Obviously it is called Crew so find your group, right? Find your community and people that lift you up rather than pull you down.

How did you transition from the boxing world to the beauty world?

I’m sort of just riding this roller coaster…and I’m just enjoying it. Because I do know that one day, I’m going to wake up and be 50 and this will probably all be over, right? So I’m just enjoying the roller coaster, the ups and downs of it, and it’s been a lot of fun. I never thought in a million years that I would release a book or that I would have a fragrance that I’m part of, so I’m very stoked.

Why did you choose a retailer like Chemist Warehouse to work with?

I think Chemist Warehouse is just this staple. I come from the suburbs, I grew up in Lilydale in Victoria. I feel like every major suburb has a Chemist Warehouse. It’s everywhere and obviously growing up I always used to go in there when I was young when I was sick or something like that. So I’m stoked to have a good relationship with Chemist Warehouse. They’ve supported me in the background for a while and I’m stoked that they want me to be a part of this one too.

Do you have any more business ventures coming up in the beauty/lifestyle world?

I don’t have a skin care routine. I maybe could explore something like that in the future, but I’ve got nothing coming out. As I said, I’m just riding this roller coaster…things come up, ideas come up and I think I’m just going to ride the wave as I said.

From the Crew collection, which is your favourite?

I think I like the blue bottle the best. But as I said, all three of them are for different points in my life but I’ll probably favour the blue one the most.
