Just over a year ago Retail Beauty reported that Gauge Capital, the US private equity company, had acquired BondiBoost, the Australian professional hair care brand, for an undisclosed sum.
Following its launch in 2018, the vegan and cruelty-free brand sold directly to consumers through its own dedicated website – www.bondiboost.com.au – before expanding into the salon market a year later. The brand’s Wave Wand hair tool quickly achieved cult status and one sells every 60 seconds.
BondiBoost has also done well in the US and UK markets and global sales exceeded US$80 million in 2021. In the US, the brand sells direct to consumers through its own website and is also available through leading retailers such as Target and Ulta Beauty, the largest specialist beauty chain in the US.
To fast-track its US presence, BondiBoost has tapped Tommy Buckett, one of the most in-demand hair celebrity hair stylists in the US. Based in New York’s uber-trendy Marie Robinson Salon in New York, his Hollywood client list includes Rachel McAdams, Ashley Olsen, Sienna Miller, Elisabeth Moss and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
In his new position, Buckett will work with BondiBoost on current and upcoming products, care and treatment. He will also be involved in communications initiatives, including e-mail marketing and social media.
