Collaboration and partnerships will be essential to meeting the challenges facing us all, and these can only flourish when industry and government gain a better mutual understanding of what drives the other. We believe Canberra Day 2023 helped achieve just that!

Industry Leaders’ Dinner

Our Industry Leaders’ Dinner was the perfect way to welcome Accord’s members to the nation’s capital for our Canberra Day 2023, held 6–7 September 2023 at the East Hotel.

Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, joined us for the evening. The Minister’s address on the night reflected his bringing together of two important portfolios for our industry, as well as his interest in learning more about our industry.

Industry Seminar

Tracey Raso, Revlon & Elizabeth Arden and Accord Chair, opened Accord’s Canberra Day Seminar on September 7, welcoming government and industry to our annual event for valuable updates and discussions on the policy and regulatory reform landscape affecting the industry that Accord represents.

This year, for the first time, our Canberra Day included an Industry Showcase. Leaders from the hygiene, personal care and specialty products industry demonstrated to our government colleagues our sector’s sustainability and innovation credentials, the value of local manufacturing and investment, as well as insights into the challenges and opportunities for our industry.

The Showcase included an excellent presentation by Olivia Whitaker (L’Oréal, Sustainability Manager) on some of the beauty sector’s social and environmental sustainability priorities. Generously drawing on examples from beyond the L’Oréal Groupe, Olivia highlighted the many excellent company- and brand-led initiatives underway in the beauty sector.

L to R: Claire Smith (SC Johnson & Son), Clynton Bartholomeusz (Beiersdorf), Brad Macdougall (True Brands), David Brown (Panamex Group), Bronwyn Capanna (Accord), Kumar Venkatasubramanian (Procter & Gamble) and Tracey Raso (Revlon & Elizabeth Arden and Accord Chair).

Government’s Policy Priorities

The second half of the day reverted to our traditional Canberra Day format, where we heard from our government colleagues on the latest policy measures and priorities for industry, trade and the environment.

Governance thought-leader Megan Motto also gave a captivating keynote presentation on the importance of good governance for effective collaboration and positive change.

It was our best-attended Canberra Day ever. A huge thank you to all our presenters, members, government colleagues and stakeholders who joined us for an unforgettable day.

Perhaps see you there in 2024!
