Scents are tied to memories, so why not manufacture products that smell like major holidays?
Though Australia experiences a summer Christmas, the festive season is inevitably tied to feelings of warmth, cosiness and restfulness. Fragrances, bodycare and haircare are beginning to infuse the snug, nostalgic scents associated with the holiday period.
Gourmand-scented products are believed to evoke emotions of positivity, well being and satisfaction. According to a fragrance trend analysis by Exploding Topics, the ‘search interest in “gourmand perfume” has climbed more than 400% in recent years.’
As social media reflects, young consumers are gravitating toward vanilla, caramel and anything gourmand-scented this festive season. Consumers seem to be moving away from traditional floral notes and purchasing gourmand self-care items to add to their routine.
For me, as a Gen Z consumer, I opt for products infused with such scents to evoke the happiness associated with Christmas festivities. Here are some of the bodycare, skincare and haircare I have begun to reach for in the midst of the gourmand craze!
LUSH Get The Good Times Roll Body Spray
LUSH Super Milk Conditioning Spray
LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask (Holiday Limited Edition)
Palmolive Body Butter Vanilla Body Wash
Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa 62 Perfume Mist
Philosophy Vanilla Birthday Cake Shampoo Shower Gel & Bubble Bath
L’OCCITANE Almond Supple Skin Oil
There is no doubt that we are seeing consumer preferences shift toward foodie fragrances. If beauty and lifestyle brands want to earn Gen Z as consumers, they should capitalise on major holidays such as Christmas, to create products that reflect the nostalgia and comfort of the annual holiday.
