Hungary is known for its abundant thermal waters, which have been used for their therapeutic benefits for over two thousand years.
The Omorovicza skincare brand was inspired by this tradition and was founded in 2006 by Stephen and Margaret de Heinrich de Omorovicza, who were inspired by the healing effects of the thermal waters on their skin.
Incidentally, the Omorovicza family built their first thermal bath in the 1800s in Budapest.
The founders of the brand worked with a Nobel Prize-winning laboratory to develop their patented Healing Concentrate, which is at the core of all their products.
This concentrate is made up of minerals extracted from Hungary’s thermal waters, including calcium, magnesium, and zinc, which have been shown to have significant benefits for the skin.
Stephen recently touched down in Sydney and spoke exclusively with Retail Beauty about the brand’s launch in Australia and its exclusive partnership with Mecca.
“I got an email from Marita Burke (former Mecca Director of Brands) asking me to be in Paris the next day, even though I was in Budapest,” he explained.
“So, I said yes. She took on the brand, even though now I suppose it’s now much less ‘weird’ sounding than it was back then.”
Omorovicza was selected to be part of Mecca Trove, which brings consumers a world of undiscovered treasures, hand-selected by Mecca’s international buyers.
Stephen said one of the key factor’s to the brand’s success at Mecca had been the training the staff receive through Mecca-versity, where is where team members are taught in-depth about the brands and products through a learning platform.
“What’s really important is to understand the way their training works and the way the BAs (beauty advisors) are educated, because it’s such an amazing opportunity – I even failed my own quiz the first time,” he said, laughing.
Stephen said that education was key to building the brand’s reputation and popularity in Australia.
“Training is absolutely essential when you come from Budapest and you have a brand story that has to do with geology and minerals and a bit of magic,” he said.
Today, Omorovicza offers a range of luxurious skincare products that harness the power of Hungary’s thermal waters and other natural ingredients to nourish, hydrate, and rejuvenate the skin.
The brand has been endorsed by a growing list of Hollywood A-listers including Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson, and has over 50 products in its line, all of which are carefully considered, ideal for those prone to sensitivities.
Their products are known for their efficacy and their ability to transform the skin’s appearance and texture, and they have won numerous awards and accolades from the beauty industry.
All of the Omorovicza products are Leaping Bunny approved.
