Miimi & Jiinda is an Australian art business, founded by Aboriginal mother and daughter, Lauren Jarrett and Melissa Greenwood.
Melissa and Lauren hail from the Gumbaynggirr, Dunghutti, and Bundjalung tribes of Australia’s East Coast, often referred to as ‘Saltwater Country’.
Their artwork is contemporary and modern, and portrays their daily journey as artists. The colours and patterns are inspired by their ancestral homelands, made up of rivers, oceans, mountains, rainforest, creeks, trees, animals, and bird-life.
This year the Jurlique’s Mother’s Day gift selection is adorned with the artwork of the Aboriginal mother and daughter duo.
Speaking exclusively with Retail Beauty, Melissa said she and her mother wanted to collaborate with Jurlique for a Mother’s Day collection because they appreciate Mother Earth.
“We love their products and ethos,” she said. “Knowing they create their products with organic and biodynamic processes, caring for the land consciously with Mother Earth in mind, is so important to us.
“The land is very important to us; it’s our greatest teacher, our divine authority. We must take care of it and it will take care of us, Jurlique cares for and works in harmony with the land and the moon cycles. The synergy is that we come from a place of love and good intention with a conscious awareness.”
The limited edition collection features the artwork Lowanna Dreaming. Lowanna is a Gumbayngirr name for girl and it also means ‘exquisite beauty’.
“This painting represents the exquisite beauty of the feminine energy when it’s aligned and in its truest most authentic form,” Melissa said.
To celebrate the launch, Jurlique hosted a luncheon at Chiswick to unveil their Mother’s Day offering.
Lauren joined Jurlique Farm Manager Cherie Hutchinson to discuss her personal stories as an Indigenous woman, respect for nature and the importance of living in harmony with the land.
Meanwhile, talked guests through Jurlique’s own unique biodynamic farming practices and how they harnessed the power of mother nature in the ‘seed to skin’ journey.
The Jurlique Mother’s Day collection is available now.
