Mecca, Australia’s leading beauty retailer, has kicked off recruitment for 300 new roles in preparation for the opening of its largest flagship store, set to debut in early 2025. The much-anticipated store, located at 299 Bourke Street on the renowned Bourke Street Mall, will be one of the largest beauty destinations in the world.

The new flagship store occupies a site rich in Melbourne’s history. From 1883 to 1929, the building housed the famous Cole’s Book Arcade, a three-story literary haven that was once the largest bookstore in the world with over two million volumes. The site then became the flagship Coles variety store in 1929, a key retail destination until 1986.

Spanning three floors and 4,000 square meters, the new Mecca Bourke Street will feature more than 200 global beauty brands and offer over 80 services and experiences. As the brand’s largest store to date, it will be three times the size of Mecca’s Sydney flagship and seven times larger than the retailer’s Melbourne Central location.

The flagship store will deliver an immersive beauty experience, including:

  • The Perfumeria: A space dedicated to Mecca’s curated selection of global fragrances.
  • Advanced Skincare Services: High-tech treatments addressing a wide range of skin concerns.
  • Interactive Makeup Areas: Creative spaces where customers can experiment with leading makeup brands.

In addition to its classic offerings, Mecca Bourke Street will introduce several new concepts:

  • Mecca Apothecary: A first-of-its-kind wellness hub with over 15 new brands, offering products and services for skin restoration, gut health, and holistic beauty needs.
  • Mecc Atelier: A luxurious one-stop salon providing makeup, hair, and nail services in a single session.
  • Mecca-versity Auditorium: An education space for large-scale masterclasses, beauty courses, and community-driven events, aligned with Mecca’s M-Power program, which focuses on empowering women and girls through education and social change.

The decision to establish the flagship store at 299 Bourke Street reflects Mecca’s commitment to Melbourne, where the brand was founded 27 years ago by Jo Horgan. Since then, Mecca has grown to become Australia’s largest prestige beauty retailer, serving over four million customers annually across more than 100 stores in Australia, New Zealand, and online.
