If there is anyone who knows a thing or two about SFX makeup, it’s CEO of ACMUSE Scott Lattimer.

The Australian College of Make-Up and Special Effects (or ACMUSE for short) has been providing industry training in film, TV, theatre, fashion, bridal and special effects makeup for 40 years. As Halloween is just over a week away, and with most Halloween parties happening even sooner, what better time to talk all things SFX makeup!

What is a great go-to last-minute Halloween makeup look?

Carrie, Stephen King’s Film – An old frock and bucket of blood, a great last-minute look that’ll have people stopping in the street. Simplicity is the key.

What is your biggest tip for those wanting to try their hand at SFX makeup this Halloween?

Ensure that you are using he right glue for the job in hand – e.g. if you’re gluing hair use Spirit Gum, if you’re gluing three-dimensional prosthetics use Pros-Aid or Silicone.

How do you make fake cuts and blood look realistic?

Use Third Degree Silicone putty to create the wound and fill with Robert Smith Silicone Flow Blood.

What is the most impressive makeup look you have seen on Instagram?

The most impressive makeup look so far will have to be Vanessa Skulltress Davis, see her at The Show Sydney 8th & 9th Feb 2020.
