Beauty retail outlet Sephora, owned my LVMH, has closed all of its retail stores in the US and Canada.

The stores closed 5pm local time, Tuesday, March 17 are and are set to be shut until Friday, April 3.

It has also implemented remote working for employees in its corporate offices.

The announcement was made by Jean-André Rougeot, president and CEO, Sephora Americas, on its community web page.

“Today we have made the difficult decision to close all of our retail stores in the US and Canada and implement remote working for employees in our corporate offices from 5pm local time tomorrow (Tuesday, March 17) through Friday, April 3. When Sephora first opened its doors, we did so with the mission to create a unique community for all beauty enthusiasts. Since then, we have always taken our responsibility to protect the well-being of our people and community seriously. It was with that responsibility in mind that we made this decision,” the statement read.

“We also recognize that we are in a position to support the collective fight against COVID-19. Following guidance from public health authorities, we understand that practicing social distancing and reducing dense public gatherings as much as possible is critically important at this time. This is truly a global effort that requires all of our participation.”

Customers will still be able to make purchases through the app and online, with free shipping for all orders until April 3.
