Lara Srokowski is an internationally renowned makeup artist. With more than 15 years of experience in the world of beauty, Lara’s journey with Lancôme began in 2011, and today she is Beauty Director for the L’Oréal-owned brand.
She shares the lowdown on some of the top looks she designed for an impressive eight shows at the recent Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) 2022.
For Bec + Bridge, Lara created three “grunge meets glamour” looks with smoky eyes in blues, greens and greys.
Other standout looks included crystal-embellished and silver eyes for Auteur; bold red lips and cobalt blue statement eyes for Daniel Avakian; and a graphic black eyeliner for Phoebe Pendergast at the Next Generation show.
Skin prep was essential to all of the looks created by Lara for AAFW.
“Beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin,” she said.
Starting with Lancôme Tonique Confort, skin prep took at least five minutes (valuable time in the World of backstage at AAFW). This was followed up with Lancôme Advanced Génifique serum and Advanced Génifique Yeux Light Pearl eye serum.
For makeup, Lara mixed Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear foundation with a few drops of Advanced Génifique, creating “makeup with skincare benefits”. This was to ensure that the makeup and skincare would last till the models hit the runway, which often was a wait of four hours or more.
Another trick that Lara created and has been doing for a while, is to tap on a bit of Lancôme Advanced Génifique serum on the cheekbones on top of the foundation to give the skin a more natural highlight, creating the perfect “rich girl clean look”.
Faces were sculpted with Lancôme Belle de Teint bronzer. Lara also used the same bronzer to blend out the smoky eye looks she created.
“You should always use a bronzer when creating smoky eyes to blend out any harsh lines,” she said.
Some of the Lancôme eyeshadow palettes Lara used included the Hypnôse Eyeshadow Palettes in 14 Smokey Chic and 15 Bleu Hypnotique, which can be used dry or wet.
To create the cobalt blue statement eyes for Daniel Avakian, eyeshadow was applied using a brush moistened with a bit of Lancôme Advanced Génifique Yeux Light Pearl. This created a creamier texture to the eyeshadow and incorporated more skincare to ensure the look remained fresh while waiting to hit the runway.
This was followed by a couple of coats of Lancôme Lash Idôle Volumising Mascara.
