Rationale launches skin-adapting tints based on Melanotypes

The Fitzpatrick scale is a numerical classification system that is commonly used to categorise human skin colour based on its response to UV light exposure.

It was developed in 1975 by Thomas B. Fitzpatrick, a Harvard dermatologist, and is widely used by dermatologists, aestheticians, and other healthcare professionals to determine the appropriate treatment and care for different skin types.

The Fitzpatrick scale categorises skin colour into six different types, based on a combination of genetic factors, sun exposure history, and skin reaction to sunlight.

Rationale was founded in 1992 by Cosmetic Chemist Richard Parker and since its inception, the brand has developed an industry-leading research and innovation discipline, giving rise to transformative luxury skincare and treatments.

The brand’s latest launch, the Beautiful Skin Superfluid SPF30, is offered in six skin-adapting tints based on Melanotypes, reflecting the research of the Fitzpatrick Scale.

Rationale Founder Richard Parker said these “six Melanotypes represent the entire spectrum of human skin tones classified by the depth of Melanin”.
