Founded in 1921, Weleda has long been dedicated to holistic health and natural beauty, a vision first championed by its founders Rudolf Steiner, Dr. Ita Wegman, and Oskar Schmiedel. This trio combined their expertise as a philosopher, obstetrician, and chemist to create a brand that blends science, nature, and healing.
“Our founders were visionaries, integrating medicine and nature to create products that support health and respect the planet,” explained Charmaine Pichler, Managing Director of Weleda Australia, at the recent Weleda Contouring Face Care launch held at The Calyx, Botanical Gardens.
Charmaine elaborated on Weleda’s humble beginnings in a small house in Arlesheim, Switzerland, which functioned as a clinic and remains a 63-bed hospital today. This facility is designed to be a healing space, featuring coloured walls, paintings, and curved staircases. The company’s meticulous care extends to its largest biodynamic garden in Europe, where ingredients like Calendula for baby care are handpicked.
“We don’t just cultivate with tractors; we handpick our ingredients to ensure the highest quality,” Charmaine emphasised.
Weleda’s commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing is evident in its numerous certifications, including B Corp certification. “We are super, super proud to be B Corp certified,” Charmaine said, highlighting the rigorous standards they meet for environmental, social, and governance practices.
“Weleda is a purpose-driven company, supporting sustainability, ethical sourcing, and biodiversity,” Charmaine continued. “Our products are certified by NATRUE and the Union for Ethical Biotrade, ensuring respect for supply chains, cultures, and fair pay.”
Charmaine introduced the Weleda Contouring Face Care line to media and guests, featuring key ingredients Blue Gentian and Edelweiss. This line targets the effects of menopause on the skin, helping women feel confident and beautiful at every age. The range includes Contouring Day Cream, Contouring Night Cream, Contouring Eye & Lip Cream, and Contouring Face Serum, all designed to firm, plump, and brighten the skin while reducing deep wrinkles.
Special guest Alison Daddo, author of Queen Menopause, and Liezel Barnard, Naturopath and Trainer at Weleda Australia, then held an in-depth discussion about the range and its benefits. Their conversation highlighted the unique formulation and effectiveness of the products.
