YouTube makeup vlogger Nikkie de Jager, who boasts more than 12 million subscribers to her beauty and makeup tutorials, has come out as transgender.
The Dutch social media star, who vlogs under the username NikkieTutorials, made the revelation in an emotional 17-minute video on her YouTube channel.
In the heartfelt video, Nikkie explained she had planned on telling viewers eventually, but she had been recently blackmailed by individuals who wanted to leak her story to the media.
The 25-year-old, who is one of the most ground-breaking beauty YouTubers in the world and has worked with the likes of Marc Jacobs Beauty, Maybelline, Ofra and Lady Gaga’s makeup brand Haus Labs, said she knew from a young age she was born in the ‘wrong’ body.
She grew her hair out and started wearing girls’ clothes when she was just six years old, started taking hormones when she was 14 and had fully transitioned by the age of 19.
Nikkie said her video post explaining her story was her “taking back her own power”.
