La Roche-Posay, in partnership with Skin Check Champions, is dedicated to enhancing skin cancer awareness and prevention through nationwide complimentary skin checks. The recent launch of a mobile Skin Check Clinic at Bondi Beach aligns with this mission and the clinic, equipped with trained skin check nurses and private consultation rooms, has embarked on a national tour, targeting 5,000 skin checks by the end of 2024.

This initiative resonates with La Roche-Posay’s ‘Your Skin Remembers‘ campaign, emphasising the cumulative impact of sun exposure and the significance of regular skin checks. Responding to the pressing need for increased photoprotection education in Australia, where 70 per cent reduce sun protection when tanned, the campaign aims to instil better sun safety practices.

During the recent  10-day initiative at Bondi Beach, to coincide with National Skin Cancer Action Week, the brand surpassed its goal of 1,000 skin checks, conducting 1,545 by trained skin check nurses and identifying 740 suspect lesions.

As part of the campaign, over 60,000 samples of La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF 50+ sunscreen were distributed.

Dermatologist Dr Cara McDonald highlighted the importance of routine skin checks, emphasising that skin cancer does not discriminate.

“I see people all the time who say, ‘I don’t go in the sun’ or ‘I don’t burn easily’, not understanding that even DNA damage caused by previous sun exposure in childhood, teens or twenties can lie dormant in cells,” she said.

“Every time those cells divide, there’s a risk of a mutation–if your body isn’t good at checking for mutations, you may pay for the damage you had earlier. That’s why it’s essential to have regular skin checks, no matter how exposed to the sun you think you are. Skin cancer does not discriminate. We also suggest self-monitoring for changes to the skin using the ABCDE method to identify suspect lesions with the naked eye.”
