Myer closed all of its bricks-and-mortar stores in late March, but it was business as usual for its online operations.

The department store chain’s Easter Treats Sale delivered a massive 800 per cent rise in online purchases over the long weekend break.

Beauty was a standout, spurred by a spree of one-day-only offers on Easter Saturday.

Purchases soared by 7000 per cent, as consumers also took advantage of a drop in the free shipping threshold to $49.

The temporary closure of Myer’s stores saw 10,000 workers stood down without pay.

But the huge increase in online sales has allowed the retailer to re-assign more than 2000 staff to help with the e-commerce upsurge.

David Jones stores remain open, but its online sales have also risen by 100 per cent over the past month.
