All of L’Oréal’s skincare products are backed by decades of in-depth research. But over the past few years, the multinational’s Active Cosmetics Division (La Roche-Posay, CeraVe, SkinCeuticals) has been a bullet performer.

L’Oréal has acquired Skinbetter Science, a physician-dispensed US brand underpinned by the latest advances in dermatology, as the latest addition to the Active Cosmetics Division.

The prestige brand was founded in 2016 by pharmaceutical veterans, Jonah Shacknai, Justin Smith and Seth Rodner. Best known for its groundbreaking products in the anti-ageing, moisturising, cleansing, skin peeling and sun protection sectors, Skinbetter Science is sold mainly through dermatologists, plastic surgery and medical aesthetics salons and clinics in the US.

The brand is also available in Australia through selected salons such as The Clinic in Sydney.

One of the fastest-growing medical dispensed skincare brands in the US, Skinbetter Science posted sales of US$95 million in 2021.

Skinbetter Science is a perfect complement to the Active Cosmetics Division’s brand portfolio, notes Myriam Cohen-Welgrym, worldwide president of L’Oréal’s Active Cosmetics Division.

“It will contribute greatly to the L’Oréal Active Cosmetics Divisions long-standing mission to pioneer health and beauty with advanced science-based skincare innovations. I am confident this high-growth US brand has great international potential”.

The entire Skinbetter Science team will move to L’Oréal and the founding executives will continue to run the business.

L’Oréal’s Active Cosmetics Division was the multinational’s fastest-growing division in the first half of 2022. Outpacing the global dermocosmetics market, sales reached 2.54 billion euros (AUD$3.76 billion) in the first six months of the year.
