First Impressions Events is a promotional staffing agency for the retail beauty industry based in Melbourne.

It provides promotional and sales consultants to retail beauty clients operating in department stores, variety stores and speciality pharmacies.

In 2021 it acquired the business of Sydney-based Momentum Promotions and expanded into the local market, which has seen the agency now appoint Michael Davies as NSW Business Manager.

Carlene Lucke, Founder and Director of First Impressions Events, said Michael’s skills in building and managing sales teams and client relationships would be invaluable for the business.

Michael will be responsible for managing the NSW business including staff recruiting, coaching and rostering.

“Since acquiring Momentum we focused on maintaining and supporting our existing client base as the well-documented staff shortages that impacted the retail industry over the past 18 months or so proved quite challenging in recruiting appropriate staff,”  Carlene said.

“However, over the past few months the environment has started to change. This has enabled us to now pursue new opportunities and build our team in NSW to support further growth in the business.”

Speaking exclusively with Retail Beauty, Michael said he sees this newly created role “as a great opportunity to build on from the existing team base here in NSW in growing the business”.

“With over 20 years’ experience as a national sales manager with businesses specialising in prestige cosmetics, skincare and health/wellness, I have an advanced understanding of the beauty market in both retail department stores, professional salon and spa markets,” he said.

Michael said his goals for the business in Sydney included “developing a team of agency consultants experienced in fragrance, cosmetics and skincare for the retail beauty sector; delivering a superior level of service and standards to clients either for their in-store coverage, promotional activities or product launches and developing a reputation in Sydney as to what First Impressions Events has achieved in the Melbourne market and continue to build in strength.”

Client Liaison Manager Stephen Adderton will continue in his role and support Michael and the team.
