Niacinamide is a type of vitamin B3 that is necessary for good health. The niacinamide market was valued at US$695.9 million ( $1.1 billion) in 2021 and is expected to reach US$934.17 million ($1.5 billion) by 2029, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.75% during the forecast period 2022 to 2029, according to Data Bridge Market Research.

Niacinamide improves the structural integrity of the skin barrier and aids skin homeostasis by boosting lipid component synthesis. It also has a wrinkle-smoothing impact on ageing skin, prevents photocarcinogenesis, and improves pigmentation problems, which has led to an increase in its use in personal care and cosmeceuticals, the market research company states.

Meanwhile, the Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) market size exceeded US$1.2 billion ($1.9 billion) in 2021 and is estimated to grow at over 8.5% CAGR from 2022 to 2028, according to Global Market Insights.

It cites preventing the signs of premature aging, increased elastin and collagen production and improved blood circulation as important factors driving the demand for the AHA products.

Olay has developed a unique solution that combines both niacinamide and AHA together. The formula penetrates 10 layers deep* into skin’s surface, with 98 per cent of people noticing a reduction in acne marks or discolouration for clearer and smoother skin^.

Speaking at the launch event in Sydney, Carrie Simons, P&G Head of Research & Development at Procter & Gamble, Olay’s parent company, said one of the “true point of difference for Olay is our formula craftsmanship and proven performance that we get as a result”.

“We screened over 15,000 leading skin actives and select less than one per cent  because we’re only going to use what is most efficacious, most potent and most healthy for your skin,” she said.

“We also have over 500 people working for the safety and quality  and so we make sure that when we pick out the one per cent  of ingredients that we are going to use on our formulas that they get to consumers in a way that maximise results, as well as the quality and the safety.

“We also make sure that what we’re launching has a  truly proven performance. we run about 17 clinical studies a year, and our products are tested on about 8,000 consumers every single year.  So, when we say something works, it’s because we’ve shown it time and time and time again. And we’re confident that our consumers will be impressed and delighted by what they experience.”

David Khoo, Olay’s Principal Skincare Scientist, also spoke at the event about the “unsolved mysteries of our skin that we’re beginning to unpack”.

The event was hosted by Elle Ferguson.
